I came here a few weeks ago for dinner with my family. My parents wanted to take us here. Since I love trying new places, I was looking forward to it. We were seated at the bar (my dad's favorite spot to eat, so he can socialize) even though there were plenty of tables available. Since we came in the side door, I had not realized the restaurant was much bigger than just the bar area. The bar area was nice -- with lots of televisions and sports murals on the walls, but the regular restaurant part was nice too. It had a cozy, family feel to it. It was also quiet, which I value since it's very hard for me to hear in louder restaurants. The bartender/waitress (I believe her name was Gabby) was super-friendly and nice. She was also very understanding and accommodating of my food restrictions. We were served our drinks quickly (I just got water) and placed our orders not too long after. For an appetizer, my family had saganaki and they said it was amazing. I had grilled zucchini with lemon sauce. It usually comes with Parmesan cheese on top but I requested none. Usually, the grilled zucchini I've had at other places is breaded without a lemon sauce so this was very different. And delicious! I ate it all so quickly. Just thinking about it right now is making me hungry again.... My dinner was Eggplant Parmesan on Mostaccioli (without the Parmesan). I was excited to eat this. However, when I received the dinner, I took one bite and thought the sauce tasted a little funny. It had a certain flavor in it, and was rather thick. Then I realized... meat! It was meat sauce! What!? I was so confused. Sure enough, it was indeed meat sauce -- a huge error on the cook's part. Even the bartender agreed with my logic in how absurd it was: I ordered a vegetable entree and omitted the cheese -- what were the chances I'd want meat on it!? She took it back and gave me another later with the marinara. This time, it was good. Whew. While I was there, I also met the owner, Jimmy. He is very friendly and genuinely interested in you. I also noticed that when new customers came in, he was the first person to go up to them and greet them. Very cool. I'm willing to overlook the (huge) meat sauce mistake because the staff was very friendly and apologetic about it. The entree was never supposed to have meat sauce anyway, and the waitress/bartender gave us all free blueberry crepes as a desert, which were amazing. I just have to remember for next time to specify what kind of sauce I want (not just here, but in other places). I completely understand why my parents really like this place. If you're looking for a good place to go that is quiet and family-oriented but also has a friendly sports bar area, this is for you. (If I could, I'd give this place 3.5 stars, but I had to round up.)

Great atmosphere, Greek family cozy! Awesome breakfast! There is lots of variety to choose from. Very clean and well kept too. Dinners are tasty too. I gave been here numerous times with a group of friends. We are always well accommodated.

The food here is well prepared. The menu is diverse with Greek influence. The servers make you feel more comfortable than at home. Even the owner introduced himself and made me feel welcome. There's even a bar here to enjoy sports with welcoming locals! Can't get any better than a place like this!

I think I stumbled on this place almost by accident bc I was nearby and wanted somewhere to eat. I thought it was a flower place at first. But the food was pretty good. It has been a few years since I have been here and will definitely have to go back.

I used to go here but I've seen the owner treat his waiters like shit, They may need to work but there is no reason to talk to them as if they are wrong. The food is very blend, I'd rather go to Omega instead of this place.

Owner was rude to me and to my server. Server was nice but kept checking in with me too frequently, would prefer to have time to eat in peace. Came for breakfast, ordered three eggs and hash browns. The eggs were scrambled, palatable but not great. The outer layer of hash browns were burned, they cook them way too much. I would not recommend eating here, next time I go downtown DP the Sugar Bowl is just a few blocks away and in a much better location.

A nice stop. We were driving by and yelping for some dinner and came across this place. Gave it a try and were pleased with the quality of service, the speed and the overall experience. Good Greek diner. The bar side was pretty full w/50+ type clientele looking like they were all having a fun time. Good place with to go with kids.

Today was my first time at Jimmy's, however we came here because my boyfriend has been here a lot over the years with his family! Sadly we were both disappointed today! Our waitress made a few mistakes and then continuously disappeared for long periods of time!! We finally got our order and my boyfriends mashed potatoes were cold and his fish under cooked on one half!! As an appitzer we ordered the loaded potato skins, which were horrible! I felt bad for begging for them!! I had the club sandwich which was ok, nothing to rave about! We won't be coming back!

Nice food, quick service. Food was hot, BUTTT Minestrone soup tasted like it was out of can, and it was cold. I thought it was just me, but the guy next to me was complaining to his wife the exact same thing. I NEVER want to send it back, in case it comes back with a Sneezer. FYI: Avoid the soup, get the salad

Somebody tell them to serve their excellent soups hot. Or at least warm. This is a consistent and easily remedied flaw. Dang, I want to like this place. They are such nice people. But the very fresh whitefish was the most boringly cooked I have ever had. It wouldn't take much to make this place great. A little lemon, garlic, onion and oregano, please.

Clean. Excellent table help, fast, efficient, attentive. Food, Chicago Greek diner food, fair portions for price and above average quality. I had meatloaf (C+), mashed potatoes (real B), steamed veggies (B+). It came with a salad (C), bread basket (B) and choice of dessert, which I opted for rice pudding (C). It is a good place to go if you want to spend a couple bucks more than a fast food joint, but get healthier selections and good service.

I've been here three times. Large menu with a lot of variety. I've had a different meal each time, all have been great. Prices are very reasonable. Staff is always friendly and helpful. The owner is always there and engaged with his team.

New to the area. We wandered in a group of 4. We waited a bit to be seated and got the feeling we were supposed to just know you could kind of wander to any table and it would have been fine. VERY laid back. My kids were being total monsters that evening and the waitress was very good with them. Bigger menu. Food was hit & miss. The salad that came with dinner was just sad, but the dressing was very good. Bread basket was nice touch but the bottom of my roll was wet and just tasted like it had been frozen and defrosted into a puddle. See what I mean about hit & miss? My entree (can't recall the name) was chicken with artichokes, olives in a lemony sauce was very good. I got the greek potatoes which had good flavor but would have been better not overcooked. Kids meal was good but could have used more sauce. (I guess I could have asked for more but I didn't). My biggest gripe was the iced tea. I am a ice tea -aholic and the first glass was fine (although they don't have sweet). The refill was obviously from a different batch or old pitcher. It had that old yucky taste to it. I would have gotten another but we were almost done. The jello was a BIG hit with my kids and the rice pudding was very good. I know I noted many things that were less than stellar but the overall vibe of the place, meals, price, interior just makes me a fan. It could be awesome with a little tweaking. I think this will probably be one of our once a week spots.

Descent breakfast joint. The food was okay, but a little too salty. The corned beef hash was extremely salty even for corned beef hash. We felt our fingers swelling up by the second. My skillet had ham, mushrooms, onions and two slices of cold processed cheese atop of hash browns - unimpressive. It was pretty quiet in there around 5p.m., which is how we like it. The place gets a whole extra star for the service. Our server Vicky was awesome! She was on top of the coffee refills and let me know the kitchen made a little boo boo on my order so she had them fix it BEFORE it came out to me. Saved me the effort of having to send it back or complain about it. I like that about her service- she was on top of everything and was friendly - not like the typical diner waitresses who barely make eye contact with you and disappear as soon as they drop of your food. Overall, it was okay food, great service (but I can only speak for Vicky), but we've been to much better diners in the area.

Jimmy's has a great atmosphere. It's a restaurant bar, where the bar is completely separate and the servers actually come to your table. There's also a patio off the bar area that's quite nice. As for bar food/appetizers... yummy skewers of pork and chicken, mmm mmm good! The restaurant is your normal atmosphere for a family restaurant. Booths and tables, lots of older people seem to come in together, which is actually quite nice. Large groups of families. The food is good, the soups are very tasty. I really like the bus staff (who rates the bus staff? Me, if they're good!), they are always friendly with my kids as well as with me and totally courteous. The servers are very attentive as well.

My grandma's a regular here, and maybe yours is too? The food is good, the menu is the typical extensive-greek-american-diner menu stuff, you get the huge bread basket, etc. There's a whole bar area too, and outdoor patio, but my grandma hasn't had a drink since prohibition, so I've never been to that side of the joint.

We went here on Saturday morning after volunteering at the Des Plaines taste - we all had been up since 4 a.m. and got here about 10:30 or 11:00. The hostess was the crabbiest lady I had ever seen working in a restaurant. She was constantly glaring at us and just made me feel uncomfortable the entire time we were there. The waitress was even talking smack about her! And our waitress was friendly enough, but also seemed a little annoyed, too. We started off with some bloody -marys and had we known she had to make them all and it would take a good 15-20 mins, we might of skipped them. She messed up 3 of our dishes which wasn't that big of a deal, but made it take even longer. At the end we just wanted to get out of there. I definitely would not go back. I didn't care for my skillet but most everyone else at the table really enjoyed what they were eating. The hostess is the main reason I would not go back, it was beyond ridiculous how rude she was and how unwelcome she made us all feel.

My in-law's like this place a lot, so we have to go here. Nothing spectacular, the atmosphere is nice enough. Menu is the usual greek owned restaurant fare. I only gave 3 stars because when I order a chicken sandwich(which is not available as a plain chicken sandwich WTF?) and specifically say "NO FETA! DO NOT PUT THE FETA ON THE SANDWICH!" somehow, I get a chicken sandwich loaded with feta. Now, why not offer a chicken sandwich with a CHOICE of cheeses or other toppings? Wouldn't that make more sense? I can't help bitching about this...the thought of feta on anything makes me sick...and what if I really kept semi-kosher?
